Low totals produce the best finishes. When every run is expensive, a misfield becomes a talking point and a leg bye becomes a celebration.

The ball did too much, early

Both new-ball spells found movement that had no business being there under clear skies. Batters played and missed at deliveries they would normally leave, and the first hour set the tone for the rest of the day.

A final over that had everything

Six runs needed, two wickets in hand, and a bowler who had already conceded twenty in his previous two overs. The captain backed him anyway.

That trust was repaid with a yorker, a scrambled single and a run out that arrived a fraction of a second before the bat came down.
